11th - BRYC JBBS SAILORS win 3rd place aboard Moondance in the BeachPoint Regatta.
Congratulations to Jesse Gaylord and the BRYC kids sailing on Moondance in the
Beachpoint Race and takling 3rd in division and 7/22 overall. This is an annual
end of the year, 60-75 mile overnight distance race held last night for junior
sailors from clubs all over LIS that went from Mamroneck NY, to Stratford Shoal,
and back. There is no electronic navigation permitted, and only the kids can
physically sail the boat. Its tough competition. These are the top big boat
junior sailors from all over LIS. It started at 4pm and finished at 2am this
morning, and the kids arrived back at BRYC at 5:30 am this morning. The race
was delayed for one hour as we sat out on the boat at the start line and got
pounded by severe thunder storms with heavy rain and 30 knots winds. 2 boats
were actually directly hit and withdrew from the race (no injuries). After the
start we had very light winds for the first hour and beat to the first mark
of of Glen Cove, The winds eventually built and held at 15-20 knots South for
most of the race and we then had a 30 mile spinnaker reach down to Point no
Point, Stratfordm averaging about 7.5 knots. Then 3 miles over to Stratford
Shoal light house, and a close reach back to Beachpoint for the next 30 miles.
Most of the J105's and the NY40 were ahead of us at the dwonwind leg, but we
mowed them down on the trip back upwind. You should have seen the kids hiking
out on the rail at 2am 1 mile from the finish, after 9 hours of grueling sailing,
still trying to squeeze a little more speed. Wonderful!. After the finish, a
30 mile motor back to BRYC. Great going Crew, and thanks to Chris Gill of Windcheck
magazine (former BRYC Jr Sailor, world famous yachtsman, and current F.PREP
sailing coach) for coming along. Full results on www.beachpointclub.org Crew:

PORT JEFF JUNIOR SAILAWAY
About 12 boats, 20 adults, and 65 kids had a lovely race in a 10kt Southwesterly
over to Port Jeff on Saturday. The wind held long enough to finish the race,
then we all rafted together for swimming, beachcombing, and general merriment
inside Conscience Bay. The weather was beautiful and at night lots of shooting
stars were spotted, and lots of swinging + diving off the spin pole.
